About the role

Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Team Manager, this position manages and directs all activities related to the daily management of predictive, preventive, and proactive maintenance programs to improve process reliability (PR) while reducing maintenance costs. The role involves maintaining packaging, blending, and fermentation equipment, supporting core reliability processes, and leading a team to meet established goals in safety, sanitation, reliability, cost, waste, quality, and 5S standards.

The Workleader will report to Team Manager Maintenance Jeff Zaremski on the 3rd shift (night shift) at our Hunt Valley Plant located at 11102 McCormick Road, Hunt Valley, Maryland.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop direct reports while fostering a team environment to meet or exceed established goals (safety, sanitation, PR%, cost, waste, quality, and 5S).
  • Maintain and inspect packaging, blending, and fermentation equipment, ensuring complete maintenance on individual pieces of equipment.
  • Support core reliability processes: Autonomous Maintenance, Early Equipment Management, Training, and Focused Improvement.
  • Support and develop High-Performance Organization (HPO) teams to integrate information flow, personnel development, problem-solving, goal-setting, and process improvement (e.g., A3, PDCA, Breakdown Analysis, and 5Why).
  • Lead daily cross-shift communications regarding adjustments, parts/settings changes, downtime, and planned/unplanned work.
  • Ensure all safety incident reporting follows proper protocols and that required training (monthly, quarterly, yearly) is completed for direct reports.
  • Review and complete required work orders daily, developing actions from completed work orders.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities and resources to meet operational objectives, monitor results, and lead escalation processes to drive closure on plant losses.
  • Audit work orders and hold the team accountable.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate and solve problems, diagnose mechanical issues, and resolve minor mechanical and processing problems.
  • Good PLC skills and knowledge of electronics, including flow meters, VFDs, DP sensors, and PID loops.
  • Knowledge of CMMS, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SAP, or other ERP tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform changeovers and preventive maintenance on all production equipment.
  • Formal leadership training and demonstrated practice of leadership principles.
  • Proven ability to proactively encourage continuous improvement and daily problem-solving initiatives.
  • Ability to coach, train, and influence while demonstrating respect for all team members.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills for risk assessment.
  • Experience effectively leading and facilitating team and cross-functional meetings.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PLC (Siemens-Allen Bradley) and VFD expertise with strong electronics background.
  • Strong leadership skills and professionalism, with the ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Flexibility in shift scheduling for training purposes.
  • Strong mechanical skills, including knowledge of pumps, valves, tanks, and burner control.
  • Ability to wear a PAPR (Powered Air-Purifying Respirator).

Pay

Base salary range: $36.25 - $54.38 per hour. Compensation will be determined based on geographic location, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. This position is also eligible to participate in McCormick’s Dividend Program.
