Maintenance Worker - Transportation

Description

Under direct supervision, performs routine semi-skilled construction, does related work as required. Examples of Duties:

• Assists in the construction and repair of Stormwater Systems;
• Lays and fits pipes;
• Cuts and breaks up concrete and asphalt pavement;
• Excavates ditches to grade;
• Cleans and sweeps city streets;
• May assist in the excavating, grading and shoring up of trenches for the installation or maintenance of drainage systems;
• Assists in the installation and repairs drainage lines and the city storm water system;
• Uses standard tools and equipment of trade;
• Cleans and cares for tools and equipment;
• Assists staff during snow/ice removal.

Typical Qualifications

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to the completion of the eleventh grade and considerable experience in building and grounds maintenance work.
• General knowledge of the methods and practices of drainage system;
• Able to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner;
• Able to work long hours under sometimes adverse weather conditions.
• Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
