About the role

Under direct supervision, the Maintenance Worker III performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of central plant equipment, including heating hot water boilers, steam boilers, centrifugal chillers, air compressors, vacuum pumps, and associated support equipment. The role also involves assisting with plumbing, HVAC repairs, welding/welding repairs, and responding to alarms from equipment monitoring systems, HVAC, IT systems, and other related notifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on central plant equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair boilers, chillers, air compressors, vacuum pumps, and associated support equipment.
  • Assist with plumbing and HVAC repairs.
  • Perform welding and welding repairs.
  • Respond to alarms from equipment monitoring systems, HVAC, IT systems, and other notifications.
  • Complete associated paperwork with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Journeyman license and 4+ years of directly-related maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Prior documented experience with HVAC-R, plumbing, boiler operations, supply and exhaust fans, pumps, evaporative coolers, air filtration systems, welding, gas-fired heaters, and minor electrical work is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in general maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide variety of maintenance problems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn department-specific computer systems.
  • Ability to pass a post-offer background check and gain/maintain access to Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB).

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in completing tasks.

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in office, laboratory, and outdoor environments.
  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, crawling, climbing (ladders, scaffolds, etc.), and reaching/working overhead.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects up to 80 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Wearing personal protective equipment, including respirators.
  • Potential exposure to research animals, hazardous materials, and infectious agents (may require vaccinations).

Schedule

Thursday through Monday, 06:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Days off are Tuesday and Wednesday.
