Maintenance Worker I Porter
Volunteers of America–Greater New York (VOA–Greater New York) is a leading anti-poverty organization serving neighbors in need across New York City, Northern New Jersey, and Westchester. Through 70+ programs, we support over 35,000 adults and children each year, including individuals experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, youth aging out of foster care, veterans, seniors, and children with developmental delays.
About the role
The Maintenance I Porter is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the building and grounds and minor repairs at Stockholm Family Residence, a transitional family shelter where residents learn essential skills that enable them to meet the challenges of everyday life.
Responsibilities
- Clean all areas and dispose of garbage in accordance with the facility schedule.
- Provide general interior and exterior maintenance (examples: floor stripping, power washing, painting, lightbulb changing).
- Maintain the facility landscape and perimeter (examples: lawn mowing, shrub trimming, snow removal, debris removal).
- Assemble furniture and equipment and maintain in working condition.
- Complete work orders in a timely manner.
- Accept and transport deliveries of supplies, furniture, and other program materials.
- Assist in inventory control.
- Be available and provide back-up in emergency situations.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- Good communication skills.
