BASIC FUNCTION

To perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and construction tasks in the various building trades.

  • Performs unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, demolition and construction work in the various maintenance trades
  • Affords assistance to other maintenance personnel in the construction, demolition, installation, and maintenance of roofs, furniture, fences, playground equipment, cabinets, shelving, chalkboards, and bulletin boards (e.g., repair and replace floor and ceiling tiles, HVAC systems, post-project clean up, etc.)
  • Affords assistance in the installation, repair, and maintenance of gas and water lines
  • Affords assistance in the repair and replacement of floor and ceiling tile
  • Affords assistance in the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating, and cooling systems
  • Affords assistance in the repair of door hardware
  • Loads, unloads, and may drive maintenance service vehicles to and from work sites
  • Prepares surfaces and paints a variety of equipment, furniture, and facility physical structures
  • Participates in various maintenance projects such as moving furniture and equipment, large setups or other activities (e.g., summer moves, new construction set up, special events)
  • May perform custodial and cleanup functions as required
  • Performs other duties related to the class as assigned

Job Requirements – Qualifications

  • Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
    • Knowledge Of Common tools, materials, equipment and terminology used in the general maintenance trades (e.g., air gun, skill saw, table saw, impact drill, wrenches, drain snake, tractor, forklift, bobcat, dump truck, etc.)
    • Rules, regulations and policies pertaining to the maintenance of school facilities
    • Safe working methods and procedures including work projects around students
    • Ability To Learn how to use tools and equipment common to the maintenance trades safely, appropriately and effectively
    • Read and work from simple drawings and blueprints
    • Prepare simple reports and records
    • Perform heavy manual activities
    • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
    • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
    • Work courteously and tactfully with co-workers, public and parents
    • Promote team building and a positive work environment

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

  • Experience: Six (6) months of experience as an unskilled and semi-skilled worker in one or more of the basic maintenance trades and that demonstrates knowledge of use of trade-related tools.
  • Education: Equivalent to the completion of High School, supplemented by coursework or training in one or more of the various maintenance trades.

LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT

  • Possession of a valid Class C or higher California Motor Vehicle Operator's License to operate District-assigned vehicle

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Insurability by the District's liability insurance carrier.
  • Must receive two (2) hours of asbestos awareness training within the first 60 days of employment.
