Maintenance Worker

Position Details

Essential Job Functions

• Perform various maintenance projects which may include electrical, heating, HVAC, carpentry, painting, masonry, floor repair, and roof repair.
• Maintain door and window hardware.
• Perform general construction.
• Perform equipment repairs.
• Initiate the ordering of parts.
• Initiate work orders.
• Responsible for preventive maintenance of all facilities equipment.
• Complete work orders, and return them to the appropriate location in the Facilities Department.
• Perform interior maintenance work when priorities warrant or when grounds maintenance must be canceled due to adverse weather conditions.

Other Job Functions

• Responsible for snow/ice removal.
• Set up and break down (apparatus remove) necessary equipment for special events.
• Maintain a neat and orderly work environment.
• Maintain up-to-date professional credentials, best practices and current disciplines including continued educational requirements through certifications, seminars, training programs, etc.
• Maintain and develop work-related knowledge, skills, and competencies related to the job through professional and cross-training opportunities.
• Attend all required meetings and training.
• Perform additional grade-level support duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Basic knowledge of general carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing and HVAC.
• Basic knowledge of flat roof systems.
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
• Read, comprehend and follow instructions/work orders.
• Meticulous record keeping skills.
• Able to consistently provide excellent customer service.
• Able to organize and prioritize work assignments, including managing multiple projects/tasks concurrently and meet varied deadlines.
• Respond to unpredictability.
• Able to resolve defined problems/processes; and assist with higher level problem solving.

Required Qualifications

• EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required.
• EXPERIENCE: Three years of general maintenance and/or construction experience required. Prior work performance must have met or exceeded appropriate work standards.
• LICENSE: Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

• EDUCATION: One-year post-secondary education preferred.

• Reading and preparing documents, reports, presentations, etc.
• Use of depth perception and color vision.

Environmental Conditions/Hazards

• Work inside or outside.
• Work in heat between 90° – 100° and work in cold below 55°.
• Work in excessive or frequent temperature changes.
• Work in wetness.
• Work with machinery with moving parts.
• Exposure to constant noise above 85dB.
• Exposure to vibration.
• Exposure to irritant or toxic fumes.
• Exposure to dust (more than nuisance).
• Exposure to grease, oils, gases and chemicals.
• Work with ladders/scaffolding.
• Work at excessive heights or in confined spaces.
• Work alone.

Salary

$14.85/hour

Monday - 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Tuesday - 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Wednesday - 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Thursday - 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Friday - 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
