Maintenance Worker.

Responsibilities

• Complete repairs to building and facility electrical systems such as lighting and power fixtures, wiring, fire or water alarm systems, and emergency power systems.
• Perform maintenance, repair, and/or operation of machinery and heavy equipment.
• Operate various electric resistance welding machines such as spot, seam, and flash, or use a manual gas torch welding process.
• Apply standard measurements, specifications, and instructions when constructing, installing, or repairing items such as frame structures, decking, partitions, shelving, doors, forms, siding, and scaffolds.
• Perform plumbing tasks for various buildings and structures.

Requirements

• Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
• Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
• Direct Deposit participation required.
• Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license throughout employment.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Pre-employment and random drug testing are required; a verified positive drug test will disqualify you from appointment.
• Required to wear a uniform and comply with uniform standards; a uniform allowance will be provided.
• May be required to serve a 1-year probationary period or 2-year trial period to evaluate fitness and whether continuation of employment advances the public interest.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement (08/31/2026). For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable. For periods of military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient. For all other applicants, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week.

To qualify, you must demonstrate sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

• Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (Screen-out).
• Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.
• Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
• Use of measuring instruments.
• Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading).
• Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of materials.

You must meet at least 2 points on the screen-out element(s) and obtain an average of at least 2 points on all job elements to be considered qualified. Volunteer experience (paid or unpaid) is credited.

Physical Demands

• Considerable physical effort required in the operation and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and attachments.
• Frequent heavy lifting and exertion of physical effort while using hand and power tools.
• Extensive leg, arm, and hand movement; standing, stooping, walking, bending, climbing, and kneeling in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
• Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, and over 50 pounds with assistance.
• Work may involve ladders, scaffolding, platforms, or high places, and hard-to-reach areas.

Working Conditions

• Works outside in all kinds of weather, frequently exposed to running water, fumes, dust, grease, dirt, and moving parts of equipment and machinery.
• Work performed in varied settings, including steep, uneven, rocky, or slippery terrain, and in temperature extremes.
• Regular exposure to cuts, scrapes, bruises, falls, falling material, or injury from equipment or hazardous materials.
• Requires use of personal protective equipment such as protective clothing, hard hats, hearing protection, safety glasses, goggles, gloves, steel-toe boots, respirators, and other items.
• Work is generally on stable flat terrain, construction sites, rolling hills, minor slopes, grades, rocky or soft ground, or in forests.
