About the Role
The Maintenance Worker performs a variety of facility maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping duties to ensure safe, functional, and well-maintained college facilities and grounds. This position requires strong customer service skills, the ability to operate maintenance equipment and vehicles, adherence to safety practices, and the flexibility to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including occasional evenings, weekends, and emergency response situations.
Responsibilities
- Responds to and completes work orders for various maintenance projects and requests in a timely manner.
- Performs basic plumbing maintenance, including repairing faucets, unclogging drain lines, rebuilding and replacing plumbing fixtures.
- Performs electrical repairs, including replacing light fixtures, lightbulbs, electrical switches, and receptacles.
- Drywall repairs, painting, replacing ceiling tiles as well as carpet and floor tiles.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance and to assess condition of buildings/systems.
- Assists with indoor and outdoor College event set-up and break-down, including tables, chairs, podiums, risers.
- Mow, weed eat, prune, etc.
- Respond to emails and other written communications in a timely manner.
- Operate box truck to pick up surplus.
- Maintain Surplus Hanger in neat, orderly fashion.
- Back up shipping and receiving clerk when necessary.
- Answer phones and take messages when necessary.
- Assist other staff with custodial and/or light duty maintenance tasks as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s license.
- Must pass a background investigation, including a favorable motor vehicle record, and criminal background report.
Skills
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical skills.
- Ability to use various tools and equipment.
- Ability to work in different types of climates including both hot and cold, indoors and outdoors.
- Ability to regularly push, pull, lift, move and carry 50-75 pounds.
- The ability to work occasional overtime in the evenings as well as nights and weekends to support campus events and/or respond to maintenance and weather issues, including being able to get to work during inclement weather to clear parking lots and sidewalks.
- Able to climb and work from ladders and scaffolding.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Experience in the operation of mowers, string trimmers, leaf blowers, and other typical equipment.
