Maintenance Worker

About the role

Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) seeks a dedicated Maintenance Worker to support the Facilities Department in maintaining clean, professional, and safe environments across agency buildings. The ideal candidate will align with HCZ’s mission to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty through comprehensive programming for children and families. Responsibilities include routine maintenance, custodial tasks, and adherence to health and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Gather and empty trash
• Service, clean, and supply restrooms
• Clean and polish furniture and fixtures
• Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors
• Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment
• Vacuum, steam-clean, and/or shampoo carpets
• Sweep, mop, strip, seal, finish, and/or polish floors
• Clean laboratory equipment using solvents, brushes, rags, and power cleaning equipment
• Follow procedures for safe use of chemical cleaners and power equipment
• Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies manually or with hand trucks
• Notify supervisor of all facility-related items at the assigned site
• Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas as needed
• Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties
• Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding for events such as banquets and meetings

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Prior experience in maintenance or custodial work
• Ability to pass a fingerprint background check and physical/TB test
• Ability to follow procedures for safe use of cleaners and equipment
• Ability to perform physical activities including lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying heavy/large objects

Schedule

• Flexible schedule
• 1st Shift: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
• 2nd Shift: 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM
• 3rd Shift: 6:00 PM – 1:00 AM
• Monday through Sunday

Pay

The hourly rate for this position is $20 – $22 per hour.
