Maintenance Worker.

Duties

• Carry materials to work sites.
• Load materials into vehicles and drive materials to work sites.
• Prepare sites for equipment installation and clean up when jobs are complete.
• Perform gardening techniques to maintain grounds.
• Operate landscaping, mowing, and snow‑removal equipment.
• Perform building maintenance on work sites.
• Drive 8‑to‑10‑ton vehicles, such as sedans and pickup trucks, to move equipment.
• Operate 5‑to‑8‑ton dump trucks to transport personnel, equipment, and supplies.

Requirements

• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre‑Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service.
• Proof of U.S. citizenship is required.
• Direct deposit of pay is required.
• One‑year probationary period may be required.
• Appointment is subject to a suitability/fitness determination based on a background investigation.
• Position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks (interaction with children and youth under 18 years of age).
• Pre‑placement medical examination is required.
• Incumbent must be able to operate a government vehicle within 45 days of hire; a valid driver’s license is required.
• Work may include assignment to first or second shift.

Qualifications

U.S. citizens may apply. Experience includes paid, unpaid, and volunteer work (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, professional, philanthropic, religious, community, student, or social organizations). All qualifying experience will be credited. No specific length of training or experience is required, but applicants must demonstrate, through their application materials, that they possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen‑Out Element): Ability to perform the work of a Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. Applicants should document experience or ability to perform the following:

• Mowing and trimming.
• Driving trucks.
• Operating hand tools.
• Performing light maintenance work.

Evaluation will be based on competency in these areas:

• Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
• Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, and blueprints.
• Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, and repair.

Physical Effort

Moderate physical activity is required, including intermittent lifting and carrying of repair materials, considerable standing and walking, pushing carts, bending, stooping, and occasional ladder climbing to prune or trim vegetation. Frequently lifts heavy objects such as bags of fertilizer or grass seed; ability to lift up to 45 lb is expected. Work may involve climbing, stooping, and working in cramped spaces.

Working Conditions

Work is usually performed outdoors under moderate temperature conditions and exposure to all weather (heat, sun, rain, snow, extreme cold). Employees encounter dirt, dust, mud, water, and occasional unpleasant odors; gloves and safety goggles are worn when using power tools. Indoor work areas may be damp, drafty, or poorly ventilated. Risks include cuts, bruises, falls from ladders or roofs, and being called in after duty hours and weekends.

Pay

Salary is based on the local prevailing rate.
