About the Role
Performs a variety of general maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, and equipment at various facilities and offsite Archdiocesan properties, including minor carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and painting. Must be able to perform some janitorial duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates with Las Missiones, Pugh Construction, and National Park System for care of the Mission church and La Tiendita.
- Coordinates with staff of La Tiendita to purchase supplies.
- Completes all maintenance work assigned and responds to after-hours building maintenance and emergencies.
- Performs repairs or general maintenance, including minor carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, glazier, masonry, janitorial, and painting tasks.
- Diagnoses mechanical problems and determines how to correct them, checking repair manuals and parts catalogs as necessary.
- Uses tools ranging from common hand and power tools (hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches) to precision measuring instruments and electrical/electronic testing devices.
- Moves and assists in transporting furniture and delivery of items to and from various buildings on campus.
- Maintains security of campus buildings, including checking, opening, closing, and locking doors and windows, activating and deactivating building alarms, and responding to alarm calls after and during regular work hours.
- Inspects buildings and other structures to detect malfunctions and needed repairs.
- Performs landscape maintenance tasks: mowing, weeding, trimming grass and shrubs, minor tree trimming, hauling off debris, overseeing planting of flower gardens, watering, and maintaining lawnmowers, golf carts, and other equipment.
- Prepares, sets up, and breaks down parish hall for parish events and rentals, including chairs, tables, and meeting equipment.
- Maintains an inventory of facility maintenance items and orders supplies as necessary.
- Maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures, including an annual report to Pugh Construction and Las Missiones.
- Assists and attends to authorized General Contractors.
- Coordinates with parish volunteers for events such as MissionFest and the Prayer Garden.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years’ experience in building and equipment maintenance and repair; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to communicate with various levels of staff.
Physical Demands
- Frequently required to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch/crawl.
- Occasionally required to sit.
- Must frequently lift and/or move 25-50 pounds.
Work Environment
- Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions (wet, hot, humid), high places, and work with various chemicals.
Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm (30-60 min unpaid lunch).
