Maintenance Worker 1
About the role
The Maintenance Worker performs preventive and corrective maintenance in the plant under management supervision.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the installation of new equipment.
- Assists the Maintenance Supervisor and/or other personnel on special fabrication and construction projects.
- Follows preventative maintenance schedule.
- Trains Level 1 Maintenance personnel when performing above‑level 1 maintenance.
- Performs machine repair and installation such as replacing motors, rebuilding gear boxes, running threaded piping, running weld piping, overhauling pumps, replacing packing shaft seals on cookers and pumps, welding and using a cutting torch.
- Conducts daily greasing and oiling of plant equipment.
- Diagnoses and replaces equipment parts with little or no direction.
- Diagnoses and repairs control circuits and VFD installations.
- Maintains a clean, neat, and orderly work area at all times.
- Uses assigned personal protective equipment and required safety equipment; follows all company safety rules and regulations.
- Attends regularly scheduled safety meetings and may serve on the Safety Committee.
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience operating a forklift.
- Experience in welding, electrical, and mechanical work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational school training.
- 2 years experience with similar equipment.
- Basic knowledge of general maintenance and equipment operations.
- Welding proficiency in MIG and Stick, including vertical and overhead positions.
- Proficiency in control power electric.
- General mechanical aptitude; able to diagnose and repair problems with motors and other equipment.
- Good math skills; ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
Physical Demands
Frequently required to push, pull, move or lift up to 100 lb. Frequently required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch. Regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
Work Environment
Job functions are performed in a bakery processing facility that may have wet or slippery floors and high heat or cold temperatures.
Schedule
Rotating 12‑hour night shift with every other weekend scheduled; on‑call as needed.
