About the Role

Westown at Wilson Apartment Homes in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician to maintain the physical integrity of the community, ensuring a safe and secure living environment for residents, visitors, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Address resident service and maintenance requests in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with residents on any pending items or the status of service requests to ensure satisfaction.
  • Keep the physical property throughout the community and immediately correct unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain accurate records regarding preventive maintenance, service requests, expenditures, apartment make-ready status, work in progress, etc.
  • Ensure all make-ready repairs and services are completed on schedule.
  • Perform general repairs to apartments and common areas, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and landscaping.
  • Prepare vacant apartments for new residents.
  • Handle trash removal, emergency repairs, cleaning, and ordering maintenance equipment.
  • Accept deliveries and move furniture and/or appliances.
  • Rake, sweep, shovel, and salt property grounds as needed.
  • Change locks and keys.
  • Adhere to all OSHA guidelines for safety.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in property maintenance or equivalent maintenance-related fieldwork.
  • Ability to interact professionally and efficiently with prospects, residents, staff, and management.
  • Hands-on experience with basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, heating and air conditioning systems (heat pump experience a plus), swimming pools, landscaping, and cleaning.
  • Must furnish own tools and have transportation to pick up replacement parts and supplies from vendors.
  • HVAC and CPO certified preferred.
  • Must have a CFC/EPA approved certification (or be willing to obtain within 45 days of hire).
  • Physical requirements: ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders and stairs, walk between buildings and on roofs, stoop, kneel, bend, hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must achieve Fair Housing certification prior to interaction with prospects or residents.
  • Ability to travel to pick up replacement parts and supplies from vendors.
  • Must pass a drug and background screening.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $20–$25.

Schedule

40+ hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and on-call hours as circumstances warrant.
