Maintenance Technician - Mechanical
About the role
The Maintenance Technician - Mechanical in Pittsfield, MA is responsible for performing all duties defined by Maintenance supervision. This includes but is not limited to installation, maintenance, and repair of all assigned equipment, components, and systems to include raw materials processing, papermaking and process-related equipment, paper converting equipment, mechanical power transmission components and systems, electric motors, compressors and pumps, valves and piping systems, mechanical assemblies, and material handling equipment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct self and job tasks in a safe manner following proper work procedures
- Respond to all duties assigned by supervision
- Aid in the installation and fabrication of equipment from blueprints
- Work in cooperation with various trades to complete assigned tasks
- Positively interact with co-workers, supervisors, engineers, contracted resources, and customers, and contribute to team efforts
- Maintain inventory and good repair of all assigned shop tools and equipment, and consistently maintain good housekeeping in work area(s)
- Manage Mechanical Work Order Backlog. In Asset Essentials, create and close work orders and manage the PM schedule
- Inspire preventative maintenance on all mechanical components
- Troubleshoot problems and perform repairs on mechanical equipment as needed
- Remain flexible and available to work any shift arrangement, including overtime as required
- Provide on-call availability outside regular hours for operational emergencies
Qualifications
- Required proficiency in the following: Able to make in-field repairs to miscellaneous piping systems, i.e., air, stock, and process water
- Knowledge of lubricants, lubrication, and lubrication application practices
- Knowledge of fluid pumping technology, applications, maintenance, and repair. (i.e., compressors and pumps)
- Ability to read blueprint drawings, schematics, and diagrams of mechanical components
- Demonstrated ability to use various hand, power, and machine tools safely
- Able to do maintenance, fabrication, layout, weld assembly, and installation
- Understanding of hydraulic system equipment, technology, controls, and applications
- Understanding of the properties of equipment used in the papermaking process and converting. Including but not limited to: pumps, electric motors, piping, gearing, fans, refiners, paper machine rolls, presses, dryers, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to solder copper pipe
- Hoisting and rigging equipment methods, and applications
- Understanding of mill compressed air systems and related components
- Understanding of mechanical principles, practices, methods, and procedures
- Understanding of applicable laws, regulations, and codes (i.e., NFPA, OSHA, etc.)
- Understanding of fire protection systems within the mill and related buildings
Physical Demands
- Physically lift to 50 pounds
- Be able to push or pull heavy objects up to 250 pounds with the assistance of pallet jacks
- Perform repetitive tasks
- Routinely stand, sit, hear, walk, and talk
- Reach, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, and balance, sometimes in awkward or tight spaces
- Have good close vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus
- Meet Mativ certification requirements to operate Power Industrial Trucks
PPE Requirements
- Employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment, including safety shoes (steel toe or composite toe), safety glasses, protective gloves when performing certain tasks, and hearing protection when required.
- Other personal protective equipment as required for certain tasks.
