Maintenance Technician III
About the role
The Maintenance Technician III plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of campus facilities. This senior-level technician performs advanced maintenance and repair tasks across multiple trades, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry. Responsibilities include diagnosing complex issues, leading small projects, mentoring junior staff, and coordinating with departments to minimize disruptions.
Responsibilities
- Organizes and oversees the day-to-day and emergency maintenance requests to make sure buildings and equipment are in working condition.
- Responds to customer requests and complaints in a timely and appropriate manner; identifies and records need or problem and determines best approach to resolve situation following departmental guidelines.
- Operates and maintains building facilities, systems and equipment related to plumbing, electricity, HVAC, and steam control.
- Conducts field checks of buildings to identify and analyze corrective and preventive maintenance modifications.
- Installs, repairs, and inspects smoke and fire suppression systems.
- Complies with department, State, and Federal safety and compliance regulations.
- Maintains accurate records of maintenance dates, repair costs, and type of maintenance performed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma with 8+ years of experience in building maintenance, electrical repair, plumbing repair, Carpentry, and/or trades.
- Valid Massachusetts Drivers' License.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods.
- Knowledge of electricity, carpentry, plumbing, and other technical skills.
- Knowledge of cleaning solutions, chemicals, and solvents.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and plan solutions.
- Ability to read and understand equipment manuals to perform required maintenance and service.
- Ability to complete routine paperwork.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, carpet extractors, burnishers, etc.
- Knowledge of safe work practices.
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools common to trade.
- Basic computer skills.
- Customer service skills.
Skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of building automated systems (e.g., BAS, HVAC controls, energy management systems).
- Vocational or technical training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical systems.
- Journeyman or Master-level licenses in relevant trades (e.g., electrical, plumbing).
- Project coordination or supervisory experience, including mentoring junior technicians or overseeing contractors.

Pay
Hourly rate beginning 1/1/26 is $35.03.
Schedule
Work shift is Monday through Friday, 2:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

Role will be a member of the Local 615, Services Employees International Union. Non-exempt role.
