About the Role
The Facilities Operations Department within Facilities and Business Operations is seeking a Maintenance Tech II, PWT. This role provides essential support for the operational maintenance and sanitation of campus buildings to ensure a safe, functional, clean, efficient, and attractive living and learning environment. The position involves troubleshooting issues and responding to customer and staff requests, requiring basic maintenance repair skills and housekeeping tasks.
Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) tasks and corrective repairs (PMR) based on issues identified during PM or reported by users, including basic repairs in plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry.
- Perform restroom cleaning and sanitation; operate pressure-washing equipment to clean and maintain assigned interior and exterior areas.
- Maintain and replace light bulbs, HVAC filters, ceiling tiles, and service plumbing fixtures (e.g., unclogging drains).
- Assist with basic custodial tasks, including vacuuming floors, cleaning windows, and removing trash to maintain a clean and orderly environment.
- Support work performed by central shops, contractors, other zones, departments, or during campus events.
- Perform corrective work to restore equipment or spaces to proper working conditions.
- Complete work orders on time, documenting labor hours, action codes, shop stock, and trade notes.
- Report any conditions requiring further attention to your supervisor and update the status of work orders as needed.
- Create work orders for unassigned repairs identified during the shift.
Requirements
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades and 3 years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma and 3 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
- Valid class E driver’s license; may require driving to various locations on and off campus.
- May be required to participate in respiratory medical examinations and training in the use of respirators.
- Authorization to work for any U.S. employer; visa sponsorship is not available.
- UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience performing general building maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of custodial cleaning techniques and chemicals.
- Experience working in a campus, institutional, medical, hospitality, or similar environment, with an understanding of facility operations and maintenance procedures.
- Experience with inventory management, including tracking materials and tools.
- Ability to operate and maintain maintenance tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot a variety of facility-related issues independently.
- Able to communicate effectively with customers and team members, operate electronic equipment (e.g., iPad for Integrated Work Management Systems PM checkpoints), comprehend standard safety procedures, and utilize telecommunication devices.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and adherence to safety standards in all aspects of maintenance work.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, managing multiple tasks with a high level of organization.
- Familiarity with building automation systems and Integrated Work Management Systems (IWMS).

Pay
Expected salary: $18.00 to negotiable.
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 4:00 AM - 12:30 PM.
