Supports the FedEx Industrial Maintenance team for material handling to complete preventative and predictive maintenance and repair of material handling systems. Utilizes prescribed processes related to mechanical power transmission, electrical, PLC/controls, welding/fabrication, and other industrial maintenance systems. May troubleshoot component and system issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provides preventative and predictive maintenance and repair of material handling systems through demonstrated competency in two or more specialty skills: mechanical power transmission, electrical, PLC/controls, or basic welding/fabrication.
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical and electrical problems within the material handling system; relies on higher-level technicians or management for complex issues.
  • Adheres to all applicable safety standards, promotes a safe work environment by attending safety meetings, completing required trainings, and addressing safety concerns.
  • Responds to sort calls to diagnose problems and make repairs.
  • Troubleshoots multiple component issues.
  • Uses Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software to enter and retrieve prescribed data.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots mechanical failures with somewhat complex skills.
  • Relies on higher-level technicians for assistance with complex troubleshooting and issues.
  • May be involved in smaller scope projects.
  • May be required to work a flexible schedule, including all days and shifts, based on business needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Examples of Skills

  • Mechanical:
    • Identifies components (e.g., bearing, pulley) causing conveyor belt tracking issues and repairs or replaces them.
    • Diagnoses power transmission failures (e.g., motor, gearbox, locked pulley, or roller).
    • Reads and interprets mechanical drawings and manuals.
  • Electrical:
    • Uses a digital multimeter to test AC/DC voltage, continuity, and resistance to identify failed components or shorted wires.
    • Tests relays or contactors to determine faulty contacts.
    • Reads and interprets electrical drawings/schematics and manuals.
  • PLC/Controls:
    • Opens PLC programs offline.
    • Troubleshoots electrical controls issues using PLC I/O lights.
  • Welding or Fabrication:
    • Performs MIG and stick welding in multiple positions (vertical, overhead, etc.).
    • Welds new parts using appropriate rods, wire, or gas.
    • Fabricates basic parts such as guards or brackets.
    • Uses an oxygen/acetylene torch.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certificates in Industrial Maintenance/Mechatronics, electrical, or mechanical trade, or an associate degree in a related area preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Industrial Maintenance/Mechatronics with competency in at least two specialty skills: mechanical power transmission, electrical, or PLC/Controls, with basic welding/fabrication skills.
  • Related military experience will be considered.
  • In lieu of experience, an associate degree in Industrial Maintenance/electrical/mechanical trade or related certificates may be considered equivalent.

Skills

  • Follows procedures as directed by work orders or higher-level technicians/management.
  • Uses Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software to enter and retrieve data.
  • Solves basic mechanical or electrical problems, including understanding basic engineering formulas.
  • Diagnoses mechanical power transmission and electrical issues by troubleshooting at the component level.
  • Effective verbal and written communication within the department, with peers, managers, and outside vendors to convey technical data and needs.
  • Follows detailed instructions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and other web-based applications.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.

Job Conditions

  • Uses hand tools and possibly power tools.
  • May work in hot or cold temperatures.
  • May need to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and squat.

Pay

$25.88 - $40.22 per hour.
