Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and routine mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic repairs on plant and mobile equipment.
- Inspect, maintain, replace, and align bearings, rollers, belts, pulleys, and related components on conveyor systems and processing equipment.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair industrial equipment including loaders, shears, grapples, skid steers, forklifts, tractor/trailers, shredders, conveyors, hydraulic systems, and PLC-controlled equipment.
- Perform basic electrical troubleshooting and repair, including reading electrical meters, testing voltage, continuity, and amperage on 120-volt systems.
- Conduct periodic safety and maintenance inspections to identify wear, damage, and equipment requiring repair or replacement.
- Read and interpret technical diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and manuals to install, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair equipment, engines, motors, and compressors.
- Perform welding, grinding, torching, and weld setup as needed to support maintenance and repair activities.
- Set up, adjust, and break down machinery and conveyor components to support safe and efficient operations.
- Order replacement parts, maintain parts inventory, and coordinate with vendors and service providers for specialized repairs.
- Document maintenance activities accurately using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or work order system.
- Follow all established safety policies and procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, and hazardous materials handling.
- Support continuous improvement efforts and assist with emergency repairs to minimize downtime.
Required Qualifications
- 3-5+ years of industrial maintenance experience; entry-level candidates may be considered with relevant technical training or certifications.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with:
- Bearings and conveyor systems
- Mechanical troubleshooting and repair
- Basic electrical systems, including meter usage and diagnostics (120v)
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, electrical diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- Welding experience (MIG, stick, or torch) preferred.
- Experience working in a metal scrap, recycling, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or trade certification preferred.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work safely in an industrial environment and comply with all safety requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Sit, stand, walk, and stoop for long periods of time.
- Able to climb in/on mobile equipment.
- Exposure to physical operations in scrap recycling facilities, including walking/climbing in active industrial yards with uneven surfaces in inclement weather.
