About the role
The Maintenance Technician position at Mennel supports the company's food safety programs and mission to reliably deliver superior quality, uniformity, and service. This role sustains Mennel’s tradition of excellence established in 1886.
Primary Work Shift
Will be required to work one of the following shifts: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM; 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM; or 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM or 12-hour rotating shift which includes weekends and potential holidays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow all food and personal safety rules and regulations in respect to GMP’s, OSHA, HACCP, the Global Food Safety Initiative, the US FDA Food Safety Modernization Act as stated in the FS&Q Statement, and sanitation guidelines as set forth by the company as listed in Corporate Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE).
- Assure the safety of others.
- Maintain the department/facility in an everyday audit ready condition.
- Maintain the reliability and capacity of the plant equipment by troubleshooting and repairing mechanical or electrical problems in the most efficient manner while improving long-term reliability.
- Operate as an active member of the maintenance team to solve equipment problems.
- Repair engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, production machines and equipment.
- Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hand tools, hoists, cranes, and power tools, etc.
- Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements using rules, calipers, micrometers and other measuring instruments.
- Install new equipment according to manufacturer’s requirements using levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
- Replace defective parts using trouble shooting.
- Lubricate all equipment using manufacturer’s guidelines for preventive maintenance.
- Start and test all equipment after maintenance is performed to check for proper performance.
- Must be able to operate a drill press, grinders, and other metalworking tools to fabricate and repair parts.
- Must have the ability to weld all metal types.
- Produces accurate documentation of repairs and modifications to facility using CAD software.
- Initiates purchase order to re-order parts that were used from stock.
- Effectively prioritizes and organizes tasks with follow through to ensure completion of assignments in an efficient and high-quality manner.
- Maintains a clean work environment and maintenance work area.
- Applies new skills and technology to increase capacity and reliability of the facility.
- Serves as a technical resource to various problem-solving groups within the plant.
- Performs Lead Maintenance Technician duties in his/her absence.
- Continuously upgrades skills and knowledge to remain current with the latest technology.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory duties.
Education and/or Experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent, and a 2-year degree or educational equivalency in a technical or industrial field such as electronics, Mechatronics, mechanics, welding, automation or other related area is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience in flour milling, food processing or other related manufacturing field is preferred.

- Strong communication skills—written and verbal.
- Interpersonal skills—listen well, and work in a team environment with a positive attitude and with minimum supervision.
- Time management and organization skills.
- Multi-skilled ability to perform basic mechanical tasks.
- Knowledge of personal computers and facility software for use in troubleshooting and work order entries.
- Ability to operate facility equipment such as scissor lifts and one-man lifts, chain hoists, overhead cranes, etc.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, procedures and plans.
- Ability to write, complete checklists and other basic documentation and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information or data in one-on-one and small group situations to co-workers, supervisors, and managers.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to quickly recognize and plan for changing work duties and events.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to perform maintenance tasks, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

- The noise level in the work environment usually requires the use of hearing protection.
- Work involves exposure to common wheat allergens.
