Responsibilities
- Ensure safe operation of equipment and machinery, safe use of tools, and safety of others in the immediate area.
- Assist with troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems, electric motors, pumps, gearboxes, blowers/fans.
- Resolve equipment malfunctions by evaluating performance breakdowns, identifying root cause, safely repairing the equipment, and preventing recurring failures.
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain mechanical equipment, piping systems, and electrical controls/components according to manufacturer’s specifications, local regulations, and Smithfield safety policies.
- Perform visual and basic preventive and predictive maintenance on mechanical equipment such as pumps, Wrap Machines, Dock Doors, Dock Locks, and Dock Levelers.
- Coordinate with supervisor for short-term and long-term repairs to minimize production downtime.
- Receive work orders, review them to determine tools, equipment, time, manpower, parts, and supplies needed.
- Respond to crisis calls with basic tools and equipment necessary to perform work.
- Ensure all assigned work and preventative maintenance tasks are completed in a timely manner.
- Follow all work instructions and document all appropriate records to meet OSHA, EPA, USDA, and Warehouse management requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED and 1+ years of related experience in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing environment.
- 1+ years of direct experience in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing maintenance environment.
- Vocational Diploma, Technical Diploma, or associate’s degree from a technical maintenance or vocational school is preferred.
- Ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors.
- Ability to operate a forklift, genie lift, or scissor lift.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to work independently are required for this position.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems as they pertain to preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair is preferred.
- Ability to read and write work orders, instructions, daily reports, and machine manuals.
- Ability to receive and relate orders/information using various communication devices.
