About the role

The Maintenance Technician (Electromechanical) plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and performance of advanced manufacturing equipment at Allied Steel Buildings. This position focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing integrated electromechanical systems that power the structural steel fabrication and secondary components manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production equipment, automated systems, and facility support equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair failures involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, robotic, and control systems.
  • Troubleshoot integrated equipment issues involving multiple systems rather than treating mechanical and electrical problems independently.
  • Repair and replace bearings, gearboxes, chains, belts, sprockets, couplings, shafts, seals, motors, cylinders, valves, pumps, actuators, sensors, switches, and related components.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot robotic welding systems, automated production equipment, and PLC-controlled manufacturing machinery.
  • Diagnose automation faults involving sensors, relays, contactors, encoders, servomotors, safety circuits, HMIs, VFDs, and communication devices.
  • Support PLC fault diagnostics and identify input/output or device-related failures.
  • Troubleshoot variable-frequency drives, motor-control circuits, safety interlocks, and HMI alarms.
  • Assist with robot recovery, fault identification, calibration, program restart, and production startup within the scope of training and authorization.
  • Work with Engineering, equipment vendors, and technical support personnel to resolve complex equipment and software-related issues.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical power transmission systems.
  • Repair mechanical assemblies and assist with fabrication or modification of replacement components.
  • Use precision measuring tools to confirm tolerances, alignment, and equipment condition.
  • Support lubrication programs and mechanical preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic circuits using schematics, gauges, and diagnostic tools.
  • Repair or replace pumps, motors, valves, cylinders, regulators, filters, hoses, fittings, and seals.
  • Identify pressure, flow, contamination, leakage, and component-failure issues.
  • Maintain hydraulic power units and compressed-air systems.
  • Complete scheduled preventive maintenance inspections and service activities.
  • Assist with installation, relocation, startup, and commissioning of new or existing equipment.
  • Support machine upgrades, retrofits, guarding improvements, and equipment modifications.
  • Accurately document maintenance work, inspections, repairs, downtime, failure causes, and parts used.
  • Communicate equipment status, repair progress, and operational concerns to Production and Maintenance leadership.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of industrial maintenance experience in manufacturing, fabrication, automation, or a related environment preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting integrated electromechanical systems required.
  • Experience maintaining automated production equipment, robotics, CNC equipment, or heavy manufacturing machinery preferred.
  • Experience in structural steel fabrication, metal manufacturing, welding operations, or similar industrial environments preferred.
  • Experience working independently during equipment breakdowns and production emergencies required.
  • High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training in industrial maintenance, electromechanical technology, or related field a plus.
  • Ability to diagnose complex failures involving interacting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automation systems.
  • Proficiency in the use of hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, meters, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to operators, supervisors, engineers, and vendors.
  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules and production priorities.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and work from elevated platforms.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and heavier loads with mechanical lifting equipment.
  • Work in confined spaces and around moving equipment while following established safety procedures.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for operating equipment and handling supplies.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toe footwear, fall protection, and respiratory protection when required.

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 4:00 PM - 12:00 AM, extended hours may be required based on workload and project deadlines. Depending on production needs, some weekend work may be required.
