Maintenance Technician- Electrical (PE&O)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains switchgear and electrical power distribution equipment up to 13.8kV.
  • Performs switching and coordinates with Electric Utility and contractors for maintenance on electrical systems up to 230kV.
  • Repairs and inspects high/low voltage electrical wiring and systems.
  • Performs periodic substation equipment inspections and meter readings.
  • Connects, disconnects and troubleshoots electric motors and motor starters.
  • Installs, programs and troubleshoots Variable Frequency Drives.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots UPS and Battery systems.
  • Removes, installs and replaces electrical lighting and fixtures.
  • Makes measurements, cuts, bends, threads, etc., pipe, conduit, and tubing.
  • Familiar with and follows electrical safe work practices in accordance with NFPA 70E.

Educational, Experience and Qualifications

  • A successful candidate must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.
  • A current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.
  • A high school graduate plus one to two years of additional education in electrical and/or instrumentation schools.
  • Two to five years field experience in Instrument/Electrical Field.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, using hands to touch, handle, or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talking or hearing.
  • Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Regular lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Response to audible emergency alarms inside the plant.
  • Ability to evacuate when required.

Work Environment

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate inside, but can be high outside.
  • Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.
  • May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.
  • Inside exposure includes but not limited to A/C 70% of the time.
  • Outside exposure includes but not limited to outside elements 30% of the time.
  • May be exposed to finished carpet, tile/linoleum and/or outside concrete or gravel.
  • Job may require working in both closed and open quarters.
  • Exposure to dust, fumes, and gasses are at a minimum on the inside, and can be moderate outside.

About the Role

Performs electrical and instrumentation related work assignments for the Instrument & Controls Department based on job requests from the Production Department. The I/E Technician position contains five levels of progression. Primary responsibilities listed below are for a level 5 (highest level of progression) I/E Technician.
