Maintenance Technician

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment across all Waubonsee Campuses.
  • Support other mechanical systems as needed.
  • Restart air handler units as needed.
  • Diagnose and repair plumbing issues such as fixing leaks, unclogging drains, replacing damaged pipes or fixtures.
  • Identify root cause of plumbing issues and develop solutions.
  • Install new electrical systems including wiring, outlets, lighting, ballasts, etc.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical problems such as faulty wiring, malfunctioning equipment, and tripped breakers.
  • Complete basic carpentry tasks such as fixing damaged or deteriorated woodwork, installing/cleaning of cabinetry, shelving, trim, cove base, hanging/removing pictures, storage units, dry erase boards.
  • Troubleshoot issues with manual and automatic door locking mechanisms.
  • Surface preparation, paint application, color matching, patching and minor repairs to drywall.
  • Maintain/cleanliness of workrooms, warehouses, and storage areas.
  • Utilize approved vendor websites to order supplies to complete jobs (minor tools, bulbs, ballasts).
  • Provide assistance to General Maintenance Mechanics as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a related maintenance field such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or general facilities maintenance.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work well with others.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Physical ability to lift 80lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings preferred.
  • Problem-solving ability to find solutions using creative thinking to find solutions to issues.
  • Effective, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to do frequent climbing, standing, crawling, and walking.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in using smartphones, tablets, desktop computers and other related devices to perform basic work order functions.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, and other elevated platforms.

Skills

  • Basic understanding of HVAC systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration principles.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems including wiring, outlets, lighting, ballasts, etc.
  • Basic understanding of plumbing systems including diagnosing and repairing issues such as leaks, unclogging drains, replacing damaged pipes or fixtures.
  • Basic carpentry skills including fixing damaged or deteriorated woodwork, installing/cleaning of cabinetry, shelving, trim, cove base, hanging/removing pictures, storage units, dry erase boards.
  • Basic locksmith skills including troubleshooting issues with manual and automatic door locking mechanisms.
  • Basic painting skills including surface preparation, paint application, color matching, patching and minor repairs to drywall.
  • Basic computer skills including utilizing approved vendor websites to order supplies, completing basic work order functions, and maintaining cleanliness and organization in workrooms, warehouses, and storage areas.
