Maintenance Technician

About the role

Los Altos Foods, a division of Sigma, is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support its cheese manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have a background in welding, fabrication, and blueprint reading, combining traditional techniques with modern manufacturing methods.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on production equipment and systems (mechanical and electrical)
• Weld and fabricate parts to repair or improve production equipment
• Read and follow blueprints to support equipment modifications and installations
• Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues to minimize downtime
• Inspect systems and components to identify hazards, defects, and needed repairs
• Repair or replace defective equipment, components, or wiring
• Analyze equipment failures and support both preventive and emergency maintenance efforts
• Maintain spare parts inventory and recommend tools, equipment, and process improvements
• Document maintenance activities and prepare technical reports
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, capability, and yield
• Assist senior technicians and collaborate with production teams

Requirements

• Minimum qualifications: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent; 1-2 years of experience in welding, fabrication, and blueprint reading; basic mechanical troubleshooting and repair experience; ability to work independently and in a team in a fast-paced environment; strong communication skills (verbal and written)
• Preferred qualifications: Technical certification in Industrial Maintenance or related field; strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; bilingual in English and Spanish (read, write, speak); knowledge of mechanical systems and maintenance practices; strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure; commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
