Maintenance Technician

We are looking for a multi-skilled Technician to join our Facilities team at Carseview Centre, NHS Tayside’s primary adult acute mental health inpatient facility. This is a varied and rewarding role where you will provide a first-line maintenance service, including reactive, preventative, and emergency works across a wide range of mechanical, electrical, and building systems. You will play a key role in ensuring a safe, compliant, and well-maintained environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a dedicated team, contributing to a 24/7 service, including participation in a shift rota covering on call, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Deliver planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, and minor improvement works.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex faults across multiple engineering systems.
  • Maintain and repair:
    • HVAC systems, boilers, and ventilation
    • Electrical distribution, lighting, and fire alarms
    • Emergency generators and standby systems
    • Water, drainage, and medical gas systems
  • Provide technical support and supervision to contractors and junior staff.
  • Act as a point of contact for permits to work and contractor management.
  • Respond to emergency situations including:
    • Fire alarms
    • Equipment breakdowns
    • Lift entrapments
    • Damage to infrastructure
  • Ensure all work complies with health & safety legislation and NHS standards.
  • Maintain accurate records using electronic maintenance systems.

Requirements

We are seeking an adaptable and skilled Technician who:

  • Holds a recognised apprenticeship (CITB/EITB or equivalent) and relevant engineering qualification (e.g., City & Guilds / ONC / BTEC).
  • Has significant experience in multi-skilled maintenance, ideally within a healthcare or complex environment.
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge across electrical, mechanical, and building services systems.
  • Has the ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure, particularly during out-of-hours shifts.
  • Possesses excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Is flexible and committed to delivering a high-quality, responsive maintenance service.

Qualifications

  • Competency in relevant systems (e.g., LV electrical, medical gases).
  • Working knowledge across multiple trades.
  • Commitment to ongoing training and professional development.

Schedule

36 hours per week, including participation in a shift rota covering on call, weekends, and public holidays.

You will be required to comply with the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland throughout your employment.
