Maintenance Technician
This position is assigned to the City of Conroe Streets Department.
About the Role
The Maintenance Technician I performs ordinary, labor-intensive tasks commonly related to streets and drainage construction and maintenance. Also assists operators in any way necessary to complete the job. Must be able to work on-call duty and respond at any hour during an emergency when requested.
Responsibilities
- Perform labor-intensive tasks related to streets and drainage construction and maintenance.
- Assist operators to complete jobs.
- Work on-call duty and respond during emergencies at any hour when requested.
- Work as many hours as required to complete jobs.
- Attend after-hours classes to renew or obtain required certifications/licenses.
Requirements
- One year of experience in Public Works preferred.
- Ability to understand and abide by City of Conroe and Departmental policies and procedures.
- Must be able to lift weights of 50 pounds and 100 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to use all tools to accomplish the job efficiently.
- Ability to adapt to new technology, methods, and changing conditions.
- Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, or sit for long periods of time.
- Must be capable of reading, writing, and communicating in English.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Must possess a valid Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver's License within six months from hire date.
Physical Demands
The work is heavy and requires the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The following physical abilities are required:
- Balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting.
- Mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping.
- Talking, visual acuity, and walking.
Machines, Tools, Equipment, and Work Aids
- Shovels, pickaxes, various hand tools, air tools, boring tools, pumps.
- Metal detectors, line locators, I-PAD.

Pay
Starting salary for this position is $19.21 hourly.
Must pass background check and pre-employment substance abuse screening as a condition of employment. A motor vehicle record check and job-related doctor's physical exam may also be required. Safety-sensitive positions remain subject to random drug and alcohol testing after hire.
