Maintenance Tech. II

Young Life is a Christian ministry focused on evangelism and discipleship. About the Role

This position maintains buildings, equipment, and grounds to support Young Life’s mission of presenting the gospel. The Maintenance Technician II will specialize in two to three skill areas: plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, or equipment repair. The role involves supervision, project leadership, and collaboration with staff and volunteers to ensure the property reflects Young Life’s values.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead assigned staff, including full-time, part-time, summer staff, work crew, volunteers, and others assisting with maintenance or projects.
• Maintain a positive, service-oriented attitude toward staff and program participants.
• Foster personal growth for volunteers, including high school and college-age work crew members.
• Maintain operating records and assist with budget management as directed by the site and facilities superintendent.
• Operate and maintain camp property, including two to three designated equipment or areas, following instructions from supervisors.
• Implement annual camping goals and collaborate with the site and facilities superintendent, guest services coordinator, and other departments.
• Engage with the local community to uphold Young Life’s public relations policies.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Willingness to obtain relevant certifications.
• Ability to organize and supervise people and tasks.
• General knowledge of multiple plant systems and experience in construction trades.
• Positive, flexible attitude and eagerness to learn.
• Physical ability to perform tasks such as standing/walking for extended periods, working overhead, bending, kneeling, crawling in tight spaces, and manual labor (digging, shoveling, raking).
• Christ-like hospitality and professionalism in responding to guest and staff needs.
• Must live in close proximity to the camp (Detroit Lakes, MN area).

Working Conditions

Castaway Club, located in Minnesota’s lakes country on Pelican Lake, is one of Young Life’s premier camps. The role requires adaptability to indoor and outdoor work environments and the ability to handle physically demanding tasks. Staff are expected to minister to and work with high school and college-age volunteers attending the camp.
