About the Role
Responsible for the installation, repair, and preventive maintenance of a wide range of mechanical equipment, building, and construction facilities. This position performs an assortment of general maintenance jobs and may be assigned other duties within capability aside from the designated area of expertise.
Responsibilities
- Operate all plant equipment: trucks, bobcat, high reach, tractors, man lifts, ladders, scaffolding, etc.
- Complete labor-intensive jobs as directed, including:
- Furniture moving and set-up
- Painting and prep-work
- Groundskeeping duties: clean up, leaf pick-up, trash control, gutter cleaning, roof patching
- Light bulb change-outs
- General plant clean-up, activity setups and break-downs
- Hanging items on walls and signage installations
- Cleaning out storage rooms, basements, hallways, mechanical rooms, and common areas
- Perform key core changes as assigned.
- Complete minor repairs in a general maintenance capacity.
- Lead and participate in snow removal (mandatory attendance).
- Assist with supplemental custodial duties when required.
- Cooperate with university employees and contractors to achieve optimal results.
- Provide work order documentation feedback on trade and non-trade related tasks.
- Maintain a professional appearance and positive customer relations attitude.
- Support university functions (special set-ups, etc.).
- Perform tasks requiring general knowledge of:
- Carpentry
- Electrical
- Plumbing and HVAC
- Painting
- Grounds maintenance
- Perform basic maintenance tasks such as drain cleaning, HVAC filter cleaning/replacement, battery replacements for smoke detectors, plumbing fixtures, and clocks.
- Interact with students, co-workers, visitors, and others consistent with university values.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent; additional education and/or training required.
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience.
- Knowledge of and ability to ensure safe practices in daily operations and effective maintenance and repair services.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment and respond to emergencies.
- Knowledge of tools and techniques for resolving technical (mechanical, electrical, systems, or operational) problems.
- Knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies to ensure compliance with legal requirements and standards.
- Ability to utilize practices and tools for effective customer communication.
Physical Demands
- Lift over 50 lbs.
- Push/pull up to 140 lbs.
- Carry 80 lbs. short distances.
- Frequent standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and reaching overhead.
