About the role
The Pan-American Square Apartments in Buffalo, NY, seeks a skilled Maintenance Tech 1 to join their team. The Maintenance Tech 1 is responsible for maintaining the building and grounds, including troubleshooting and repairing various systems.
Responsibilities
- Provides maintenance, cleanliness, and upkeep of the building and grounds.
- Troubleshoots and problem solves in a proactive and cost-effective manner.
- Makes repairs of the building, equipment, and machinery as needed within his/her capability.
- Notifies the Programs Supervisor of any major problems or concerns.
- Repairs lights, plumbing, windows, and screens, and performs simple carpentry when needed.
- Replaces and repairs carpet and tile.
- Performs interior and exterior painting as needed; obtains bids for larger projects.
- Collaborates with the Programs Supervisor or designee to ensure work orders are completed on time and meet program priorities.
- Oversees preventative maintenance of generators, fire extinguishers, Ansul system, sprinkler system, fire alarm, elevator, HVAC system, water treatment, and pest control.
- Ensures residents' rooms are prepared for new admissions, including maintenance of the room itself and moving of furniture and equipment as required.
- Gathers price estimates for major repair work and reviews them with the Supervisor.
- Coordinates with the lawn care and snow removal companies to ensure walkways and exits are shoveled and salted as needed.
- Assumes on-call responsibility during physical plant emergencies.
- Maintains ongoing contact and monitoring of the lawn care and snow removal companies.
- Participates in staff meetings and in-services.
- Schedules, implements, and tracks monthly fire drills as per OMH regulations.
- Completes monthly inspections of all fire safety equipment according to OMH / Quality Management guidelines.
- Performs any other duties necessary for the effective operation of the programs.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Trade or industrial arts coursework preferred.
- Three years of work experience in providing hands-on maintenance in a large facility, including electrical, carpentry, painting, plumbing, drywall repair, and other minor repair work preferred.
- Ability to lift at least 70 pounds.
- Ability to use a computer for email and ticketing system.
- Clean, valid NYS driving record as outlined in DePaul’s personnel policy.

Pay
Compensation range: $25 - $25.90/hour based on experience.
Schedule
Hours vary based on departmental needs.
