About the role
The Maintenance Tech 1 is responsible for providing maintenance, cleanliness, and upkeep of the DePaul's Joseph L. Allen Apartments, located in Schenectady, New York. This includes troubleshooting and problem-solving in a proactive and cost-effective manner.
Responsibilities
- Make repairs of the building, equipment, and machinery as needed within his/her capability.
- Notify the Programs Supervisor of any major problems or concerns.
- Replace/repair carpet and tile.
- Perform interior and exterior painting as needed; obtain bids for larger projects.
- Cover work orders with the Programs Supervisor or designee to ensure deadlines and priorities are met.
- Oversee the contracts for the preventative maintenance of generators, fire extinguishers, Ansul system, sprinkler system, fire alarm, elevator, HVAC system, water treatment, and pest control.
- Ensure residents' rooms are prepared for new admissions, including maintenance of the room itself and moving of furniture and equipment as required.
- Gather price estimates for major repair work and review them with the Supervisor.
- Maintain ongoing contact and monitoring of lawn care and snow removal companies.
- Ensure walkways and exits are shoveled and salted as needed.
- Work with the Director to address physical plant issues according to DePaul’s Physical Plant Standards.
- Absorb on-call responsibility during physical plant emergencies.
- Maintain and perform preventative maintenance for building and grounds, including ensuring all property outside of the building is properly maintained and cleaned as needed.
- Identify if service needs to be notified as it pertains to grounds/landscaping.
- Participate in staff meetings and in-services.
- Schedule, implement, and track monthly fire drills as per OMH regulations.
- Complete monthly inspections of all fire safety equipment according to OMH / Quality Management guidelines.
- Perform any other duties necessary for the effective operation of the programs.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Trade or industrial arts coursework preferred.
- Three years of work experience in providing hands-on maintenance in a large facility to include electrical, carpentry, painting, plumbing, drywall repair, and other minor repair work preferred.
- Ability to lift at least 70 pounds.
- Ability to use a computer for email and ticketing system.
- Clean, valid NYS driving record as outlined in DePaul’s personnel policy.

Pay
Compensation ranges from $25 to $25.90 per hour based on experience.
Schedule
This position is Monday-Friday on the day shift with on-call responsibilities.
