About the Role

BlueScope Coated Products is one of the largest coil coating companies in the United States, with facilities across the country. The Maintenance Team Lead is responsible for safely performing emergency and preventative repairs to plant machinery and infrastructure, responding to production supervisor needs during unplanned failures, and effectively utilizing manpower and equipment to complete repairs in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Safely perform emergency and preventative repairs to plant machinery and infrastructure.
  • Conduct advanced troubleshooting of plant mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Respond to production supervisor needs during emergency breakdowns.
  • Effectively utilize manpower and equipment to complete repairs in a timely manner, minimizing non-productive hours.
  • Maintain cleanliness of Maintenance and work areas where repairs are performed.
  • Ensure safe and prudent use of company equipment and tools, including Lock-out/Tag-out procedures and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Manage inventory of maintenance supplies, inform Maintenance Manager/Planner of stock depletion, and provide ordering information for replenishment.
  • Utilize the Work Order system for entering and completing work orders as directed.
  • Report to the Maintenance Manager or Production Supervisor during off-shifts and weekends.
  • Understand and comply with the Quality and Environmental Management System principles at BCP.
  • Communicate daily with Production and Quality Control personnel to resolve problems and achieve company goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Technology Diploma, Trade Certification, or a minimum of five years of experience as an Industrial Mechanic and/or Electrician.
  • PLC and basic drives experience.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical knowledge.
  • Proficient communication skills, particularly in explaining complex electrical issues.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, twisting, and bending for extended periods.

Desired Qualifications

  • Metals, coating, roll forming, or industrial maintenance experience.
  • PLC experience, preferably Allen Bradley (e.g., SLC 500, RSlogix 5/500/5000, PLC5, ControlLogix, Micrologix, and Panelview systems).

Skills

  • Strong computer proficiency, including the ability to learn and use new systems.
  • Practical aptitude in diagnosing and resolving equipment issues; ability to work independently and contribute effectively within a team.
  • Professional communication skills.
  • Ability to learn processes, equipment specifications, and company standards through manuals, training, policies, and collaboration.
  • Ability to work up to 12-hour shifts.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug test as a condition of employment.

Work Environment

The employee may be required to enter areas near moving mechanical parts, with occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals and extreme cold or heat. The noise level is moderate and may require hearing protection. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain manufacturing areas.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to walk.
  • Occasionally required to stand, sit, bend, stoop, use hands to handle tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb, or balance.
  • Capable of lifting a minimum of 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close-up and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
