Maintenance Supervisor (Fleet Services)
About the role
The Orange County Sanitation District seeks to fill the role of a Maintenance Supervisor (Fleet Services). This position oversees comprehensive maintenance and repair programs, including treatment plant and recycled water equipment, fleet, energy co-generation, wastewater collections, and mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
Responsibilities
Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises, and participates in the work of staff responsible for the overhaul, maintenance, repair, servicing, and troubleshooting of vehicles and heavy equipment.
Evaluates the economic life, usage, and depreciation of equipment/vehicles.
Develops and implements preventive and predictive maintenance strategies that maximize fleet reliability and equipment availability.
Manages fleet lifecycle planning, replacement schedules, equipment utilization, and asset condition assessments.
Maintains compliance with California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Department of Transportation (DOT), California Air Resources Board (CARB), BIT inspection requirements, Advanced Clean Fleets regulations, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Assists in the preparation and administration of operating and capital budgets, equipment replacement plans, and fleet procurement specifications.
Coordinates contract maintenance services, warranty repairs, vendor support, and specialized equipment repairs.
Supports emergency response operations and ensures fleet readiness during planned outages and emergency events.
Evaluates emerging vehicle technologies, including electric vehicles, alternative fuel vehicles, and advanced diagnostic systems to support OC San's long-term fleet strategy.
Ensures portable generators, Vactor units, pull rigs, rolling stock, and portable pumping units are readily available and maintained to support urgent and emergency needs within the treatment plants, pump stations, and collections systems.
Requirements
A high school diploma or GED supplemented by specialized training or 60 semester units of coursework from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education, in construction, business, public administration, maintenance management, or a related field.
Six (6) years of progressively responsible work experience in one of the following areas of assignment: pipes and plant facilities, wastewater collection systems, mechanical equipment, facilities maintenance, fleet and heavy equipment, energy co-generation facilities and equipment, preventative maintenance, and/or electrical distribution or instrumentation systems, which may include two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience.
Valid California Class C Driver’s License.
Depending on assignment, must possess or obtain within 12 months of placement in position a: Valid Grade IV Certification from the California Water Environment Association appropriate to area of assignment as determined by OC San; and/or Valid Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) and/or valid Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (CMRT) from the Society of Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP); and/or valid Maintenance Management Certification (MMC) from Life Cycle Engineering; and/or Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) from National Automotive Fleet Association (NAFA); and/or Certified Building Operator (CBO) from the Building Operator Certification entity; and/or Certified Reliability Leader from Reliability Web; or other similar professional maintenance certification as deemed comparable by OC San; and/or Valid hazardous materials endorsement; and a valid manual transmission endorsement.
Qualifications

Skills
Knowledge of automotive, truck, and equipment service and repair procedures and techniques for gasoline, diesel, compressed natural gas, and electric vehicles.
Supervising municipal or industrial fleet maintenance operations.
Developing fleet replacement strategies and lifecycle cost analyses.
Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and Vehicle Telematics Systems and maintenance analytics.
Experience with vehicle life cycle aspects in public sector organizations.
California commercial vehicle regulations, BIT inspections, CARB emissions requirements, and Advanced Clean Fleets regulations.
Knowledge of Heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, cranes, trailers, and specialized utility equipment like hydro-excavator/combination units.
Certifications: Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) from National Automotive Fleet Association (NAFA) or Certified Public Fleet Professional (CPFP) from American Public Works Association (APWA).

Pay
$148,928.00 - $164,174.40/Year (starting salary will be within this range based upon qualifications)
