Maintenance Supervisor

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Second Shift Maintenance Supervisor to lead maintenance operations and ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of industrial equipment and facilities. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for a mechanically skilled professional who can troubleshoot complex equipment issues, develop maintenance personnel, and minimize production downtime. The ideal candidate has a strong background in heavy industrial maintenance, with experience in environments such as manufacturing, recycling, scrap metal processing, steel, aggregate, mining, or construction. This position primarily involves working outdoors year-round and requires a leader who prioritizes safety, equipment reliability, and team performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and Develop the Team: Supervise, coach, and mentor second-shift maintenance personnel while assigning work, setting priorities, and promoting accountability.
• Oversee Maintenance Operations: Coordinate preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance to maximize equipment reliability and minimize unplanned downtime.
• Troubleshoot and Repair Equipment: Oversee maintenance and repairs involving hydraulic and pneumatic systems, conveyors, material handling equipment, mobile machinery, and heavy industrial processing equipment.
• Drive Equipment Reliability: Identify recurring equipment issues, recommend improvements, and collaborate with production teams to maintain operational efficiency.
• Manage Work Orders and Documentation: Maintain accurate maintenance records, track completed repairs, and communicate equipment status and outstanding issues across shifts.
• Enforce Safety Standards: Ensure compliance with company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) practices.
• Promote Continuous Improvement: Conduct safety observations and inspections, investigate equipment damage and near misses, and implement corrective actions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience.
• 2+ years of supervisory, leadership, or maintenance foreman experience.
• Strong working knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, fabrication, and heavy equipment maintenance.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize maintenance activities, lead a team, and coordinate repairs in a fast-paced industrial environment.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and respond to equipment emergencies.
• Ability to frequently walk, climb, bend, and kneel, and lift or carry up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Maintenance leadership experience in recycling, scrap metal processing, steel, aggregate, mining, manufacturing, or another heavy industrial environment.
• Experience with large-scale processing equipment, automobile shredders, conveyors, and material handling systems.
• Additional training or certifications in OSHA safety, diesel mechanics, electrical systems, or hydraulics.
