Maintenance Supervisor

About the Role

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in setting up, installing, repairing, and maintaining machinery and equipment, and in fabricating metal parts and tools. Responsibilities

• Directs workers in electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment.
• Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
• Directs workers engaged in dismantling, assembling, and installing industrial machinery.
• Requisitions and keeps supply of spare parts.
• Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
• Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
• Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
• Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
• Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
• Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
• Coordinates and maintains the Preventative Maintenance Program.
• Oversees Tool Crib operations and its associates.
• Implements and monitors all calibration of maintenance equipment.
• Prepares job costing reports on all maintenance capital projects.
• Monitors monthly and year-to-date Maintenance budget.
• Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
• Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
• Maintains time and production records.
• Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
• Performs other job duties and assignments as requested or as business needs require.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Directly supervises employees in the maintenance department.
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, training, planning, assigning, and directing work.
• Appraises performance; rewards and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and/or 4+ years related experience with three to five years of supervisory related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Working knowledge of statistics and basics of SPC.

Work Environment

The production area temperatures can fluctuate significantly based on the time of year. The noise levels can be moderate to high. The use of hearing protection and safety eyewear is required while on the production floor. The use of additional specific safety equipment may be required. The noise level in the office is usually quiet.

Schedule

• Must have the ability to work all shift schedules, periodic overtime, and be available for periodic weekend work.
• Travel requirements: less than 10%.
