Maintenance Supervisor
Hampton Lumber is a thriving family-owned company aspiring to be North America's preferred source for responsibly-sourced wood solutions. Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, we operate nine sawmills in Western Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. We also manage timberland and operate a wholesale and import/export division. About the role
This position's primary function is to be responsible for the day-to-day leadership in the maintenance department. They will work as a coach and mentor to ensure we are staying current with our ever-changing workforce. The Warrenton plant has had a sawmill on site since 1921 and currently employs 140 people, fostering an incredible team of skilled problem-solvers who work together to continuously improve in all areas within the plant-site.
Responsibilities
- Safety Leadership: Champion safe work practices, enforce standards, and lead incident prevention efforts.
- Team Development: Lead, coach, and mentor maintenance employees; foster growth through on-the-job training and feedback.
- Planning & Execution: Schedule and prioritize daily/weekly maintenance tasks; balance urgent repairs with long-term preventive and predictive programs.
- Problem Solving: Troubleshoot and resolve issues with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems to minimize downtime.
- Collaboration: Partner with production supervisors to align maintenance priorities with mill goals.
- Vendor Oversight: Manage subcontractors and vendors, ensuring high-quality, timely, and cost-effective work.
- Continuous Improvement: Track downtime data, lead root cause analysis, and implement solutions to reduce recurring issues.
- Resource Management: Oversee purchasing, inventory control, and cost management for parts and supplies.
- Compliance & Administration: Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and company standards. Maintain accurate documentation and records through CMMS and reporting tools.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications preferred.
- 10+ years of millwright or related maintenance experience.
- Minimum 5 years in a supervisory or lead role, preferably in a sawmill or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency in CMMS/planning systems and Microsoft Office.
- First Aid/CPR and PIT certification (or ability to obtain).
