About the role

Commonwealth Rolled Products is seeking a talented Maintenance Supervisor to join our Automotive Body Sheet (ABS) Maintenance & Engineering team. This role is responsible for analyzing, recommending improvements, and efficiently organizing and managing maintenance area work teams and processes to achieve short-term and long-term objectives in safety, compliance, equipment reliability, product quality, and cost reduction.

The Maintenance Supervisor will ensure production continuity by maximizing productivity and quality, driving a continuous improvement culture, and acting as a safety role model. This position provides leadership, direction, coaching, and development to motivate and sustain high levels of employee performance.

Responsibilities

  • Health, Safety & Environmental
    • Leverage the Commonwealth Rolled Products Safety System and Safety Principles to create a zero-injury culture.
    • Support the implementation of processes (safety observations, pre-job minis, housekeeping audits, safety work orders, safety scorecard, etc.) to reveal safety hazards and develop sustainable corrective actions.
    • Conduct daily safety crew briefings.
    • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations (zero EPA non-compliances) by enforcing company policies and procedures.
    • Ensure the team is retrained on relevant safety procedures in accordance with the HSE Department’s schedule.
    • Investigate and document safety-related incidents in the assigned area.
  • Operations
    • Ensure daily production goals for throughput, quality, target date, and cost are supported by the team.
    • Prioritize safe job execution over quick job execution.
    • Maximize uptime performance of all production centers in the assigned area through efficient use of resources and alignment with production planning priorities.
    • Maintain awareness of all equipment issues and develop urgent repair plans.
    • Participate in and conduct Safety and Production Meetings.
    • Facilitate communication across shifts regarding equipment concerns, overtime, manning, and work assignment status.
    • Work closely with the Superintendent and Production teams to report equipment issue status.
    • Communicate deviations from standard processes to relevant personnel.
    • Conduct layered process audits (LPAs) to improve quality, reduce scrap and rework, and minimize customer rejections.
    • Ensure all preventive maintenance (PMs), work orders, and assigned tasks are delegated, documented, and completed on time.
    • Drive consistent PED Steps for all outage, rebuild, and repair events.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Engage the team to develop and implement standard work.
    • Foster a continuous improvement culture to eliminate waste, overburden, and variability in manufacturing processes.
    • Participate in productivity, safety, and quality improvement projects through process adherence and RCFA methodology.
    • Support cost reduction and yield improvement solutions.
    • Implement Reliability Roadmap objectives in the assigned area.
  • Management and Leadership
    • Inspire employees to perform at high levels and set clear performance standards.
    • Hold direct reports accountable for results through performance appraisals and metrics.
    • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and development to improve employee performance.
    • Resolve conflicts within and between team members.
    • Ensure accurate payroll by tracking attendance and entering data in the timekeeping system.
    • Manage overtime scheduling to fill vacancies as needed.
    • Adhere to all applicable rules in the Labor Agreement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least 5+ years of industrial electrical and/or mechanical work experience with leadership responsibility.
  • Technical competence to backfill team members as needed.
  • Ability to understand the manufacturing process and technical knowledge to ensure product quality and flow.
  • Understanding of how activities impact cash conversion, EBITDA, and other key financial metrics.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety policies, HR policies, standard work documents, maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and charts.
  • Ability to rotate shifts in a 24/7 operation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational technical degree or completion of an apprentice program.
