Maintenance Supervisor - 1st Shift

About the Role

Lead a small, hands-on maintenance team responsible for keeping production equipment running reliably, with a primary focus on BlueCrest inserting equipment. Maintain RISO printers and other production equipment, coordinate with OEMs and technicians, and ensure preventive maintenance is on schedule. Some oversight of building and facility needs is included. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, excellent organizational abilities, and a commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Equipment Maintenance:
  • Serve as the lead maintenance resource for BlueCrest inserting equipment: troubleshoot, repair, and restore equipment quickly.
  • Maintain RISO printers and other production equipment as assigned, with the mix expected to evolve.
  • Plan and complete preventive maintenance based on OEM guidelines and site schedules.
  • Identify root causes of recurring issues and recommend solutions to reduce downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records, work orders, and parts inventory, including critical spares.
• Leading the Team:
  • Schedule, assign, coach, and train 3-6 maintenance mechanics; set priorities with Production.
  • Assist on the floor as needed and enhance the team’s technical skills.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and foster a safe, accountable work culture.
• OEM & Vendor Coordination:
  • Act as the main contact for BlueCrest, RISO, and other OEM technicians: schedule visits, describe problems, and follow up on repairs.
  • Coordinate outside contractors for facility and specialty work, ensuring projects meet specifications and deadlines.
• Facilities Support (as needed):
  • Monitor and schedule preventive maintenance on HVAC, compressors, and generators.
  • Coordinate repairs with contractors and escalate larger projects to the Plant Manager.
• Safety & Budget:
  • Enforce safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, and address hazards promptly.
  • Help manage the maintenance budget, control overtime, and recommend equipment improvements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 3+ years of industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience (mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic troubleshooting).
• Ability to read and work from equipment manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Working knowledge of preventive maintenance practices and lockout/tagout.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with production staff, OEM technicians, and the team.
• Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office and maintenance work-order systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Lead or supervisory experience, formal or informal.
• Experience with BlueCrest or similar inserting equipment, production printers (RISO or similar), or other high-speed automated equipment.
• Familiarity with PLCs, sensors, servo drives, or machine controls.
• Technical school, trade certification, or associate degree.

Training

Prior experience with BlueCrest, RISO, or print-and-mail equipment is a plus but not required. We provide OEM and on-the-job training on BlueCrest, RISO, and other production equipment, software, and site-specific maintenance processes.

Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk for most of the shift in a production environment.
• Bend, kneel, climb, and reach, including working in and around machinery.
• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs; use appropriate lifting aids for heavier items.
• Wear required PPE, including hearing and eye protection.
