Maintenance Supervisor 1, SG-14
Five permanent, non-competitive, CSEA-represented Maintenance Supervisor 1 positions are available to oversee maintenance shops on the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, NY. These full-time roles (40 hours/week, Monday-Friday) offer a comfortable work environment and free parking.
About the role
The Maintenance Supervisor 1 supervises a crew of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers in maintenance, repair, installation, and construction activities across the Fairgrounds' facilities, property, and equipment. In addition to supervisory duties, the incumbent performs journey-level trades work in one or more skilled trades.

Responsibilities

Paint Shop
- Prepare surfaces and apply coats of paint, varnish, and other finishes to protect and decorate interior/exterior surfaces, fixtures, and materials.
- Supervise and instruct crew members in painting tasks.

Plumbing Shop
- Install, alter, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures for heating, water, drainage, and ventilating systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Supervise and instruct crew members in plumbing tasks.

Carpentry Shop
- Perform journey-level carpentry work, including construction and repair of structures, roofing, millwork, furniture, cabinetry, and finishing.
- Install and adjust door/building hardware (locks, hinges, closures, etc.).
- Supervise and instruct crew members in carpentry tasks.

Automotive Shop
- Maintain, repair, and overhaul gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuel-powered equipment (self-propelled and non-self-propelled).
- Perform routine maintenance and mechanical repairs on vehicles and construction equipment.
- Supervise and instruct crew members in automotive tasks.

Electrical Shop
- Repair, maintain, and install electrical systems and equipment (motors, wiring, switches, alarms, controls, traffic signals, radios, televisions, etc.).
- Supervise and instruct crew members in electrical tasks.
Requirements
Non-competitive qualification: One year of trade experience after completing an apprenticeship or equivalent training in one of the following roles:
- Trades Specialist (Carpenter, Electrician, Locksmith, Machinist, Mason & Plasterer, Painter, Plumber & Steamfitter, Roofing, or Welder)
- Service & Repair Mechanic (Electronics, Motor Equipment, or HVAC-R)
- Trades Generalist
- Grounds Construction Supervisor
Note: Tenure rights are granted after five years of continuous service in the Non-Competitive Class.

Pay
Starting salary: $56,506/year (CSEA Salary Grade 14).
Annual performance advances may increase base salary up to the job rate of $68,630/year for employees rated "Satisfactory" or equivalent.
