About the role
The Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Automotive) is responsible for assisting with the supervision of the Wethersfield Fleet Garage on a regular basis and providing back-up supervision coverage at the New Haven and Norwich Fleet garages as needed. They oversee all new vehicle acquisitions, including vehicle intake, inspections, equipment installations, documentation review, registration, vendor communication, and processing of paperwork at the Wethersfield Fleet Garage. They also administer the fleet telematics device program at the Wethersfield Fleet Garage, including the installation, removal, troubleshooting, and replacement of telematic devices in new, turn-in, and active vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews the work of staff
- Provides staff training and assistance
- Counsels and assists employees in resolving problems
- Determines priorities and plans crew work
- Establishes and maintains crew procedures
- Develops or makes recommendations on the development of policies and standards
- Acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures
- Prepares reports and correspondence
- Performs some of the more skilled duties involved
- May estimate time, skills and material needed for proposed repairs or improvements
Requirements
- Five (5) years of experience in the trade area indicated by the parenthetical title
- Two (2) years of the General Experience must have included performing highly skilled duties in the trade area indicated by the parenthetical title
Qualifications
- Graduation from vocational or technical school may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience
- Experience with organizing and managing priorities with competing deadlines
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience reviewing and processing work orders, invoices, and maintenance documentation
- Experience in maintenance scheduling and inventory management
- Experience communicating with internal staff, external vendors, and other stakeholders
Skills
- Considerable knowledge of relevant state and national codes and regulations
- Modern methods and equipment involved in the trade indicated by the parenthetical title
- Interpersonal skills
- Oral and written communication skills
- To read and interpret specifications, blueprints, and sketches
- To utilize computer software
- Supervisory ability
