Maintenance Specialist I
Duties
Employee will perform water treatment/distribution and wastewater treatment/collection system maintenance, repairs, and construction as required. Work may include hand and power tool operation; vehicle operation; material handling; operation of radio, mobile phone and other means of communication; general housekeeping of buildings and work areas; flushing of fire hydrants and sample stations; collection of source water and potable water samples; minor vehicle maintenance; preventive maintenance on light equipment; securing of work area with safety cones, barricades, etc.; compliance with all applicable safety rules and policies; use of proper hand signals; performance of landscaping and site restoration; performance of preventive and corrective maintenance on water meters and meter boxes, and sampling stations.
Requirements
- Subject to be on call 24/7.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
- Maintains job safety standards (personal protection equipment, etc.).
- Complies with City of Shreveport vehicle safety rules.
- Trains new team members on safe work practices.
- Regularly attends required safety, job related, and certification training classes as required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid State Vehicle Operator's License with class applicable to assigned position.
- Field Operations assignment - Hold or be able to obtain Class 1 Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Certificates issued by the State of Louisiana, Dept. of Health and Hospitals within 3 years.
Physical Requirements
- Position requires moderate to extensive stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions, along with some combination of climbing and balancing.
- Position requires abilities to consistently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, 50 pounds frequently, and 100 pounds occasionally.
Work Environment
- Work is performed outdoors with exposure to noise, dirt, grease, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, fumes, animals, insects, chemicals, treated/untreated sewer, treated/untreated water, inclement weather, and machinery with moving parts requiring use of protective devices.
