About the role

As a Maintenance Specialist, you will perform semi-skilled facility repair and maintenance at multiple agency sites to ensure facilities are properly maintained and meet all agency and government standards. Your work will span various trade areas, including general maintenance, carpentry, painting, plumbing, mechanical, masonry, energy, custodial, and landscaping.
Responsibilities
- Follow standard operating procedures for installs, inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance of building systems, plumbing, minor electrical, HVAC, safety systems, waste management systems, and mechanical systems including controls, pumps, and motors.
- Assist in emergencies and closures, including adverse weather conditions, to protect and maintain operational facilities.
- Prepare sites for reopening after closures, including snow and ice removal, systems and equipment checks, and start-up operations.
- Assist in the installation, moving, and disposal of furniture and equipment.
- Maintain landscaping by mowing, edging, fertilizing lawns, weeding, trimming trees and shrubs, and removing unwanted or damaged vegetation.
- Periodically inspect buildings, facilities, and equipment to identify required repairs and make recommendations.
- Safely operate an agency vehicle to transport materials, tools, and equipment to work sites.
- Perform pest control activities such as setting traps and spraying pesticides, and maintain appropriate records and reports.
- Follow the agency’s purchasing policies and procedures.
- Perform electronic recordkeeping related to preventative maintenance.
- Perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by supervisors.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Three years of maintenance experience required; education or training in facilities maintenance trades may substitute for work experience.
- Basic proficiencies in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, HVAC, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver’s license, insured vehicle available for use on the job, and a satisfactory driving record for the previous three years.
- Must pass a comprehensive MWVCAA background screening and pre-employment/random drug screenings.
- Successful registration with the Office of Child Care Central Background Registry.
- CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
Skills
- Understanding of repairs and maintenance methods, techniques, materials, tools, equipment, and trades work.
- Knowledge of proper safety techniques, lifting techniques, and OSHA rules and regulations.
- Proficiency in the use of computers and related information technologies.
- Ability to make quick and safe decisions with minimal supervision.
- Manual dexterity for handling equipment.
Physical and Mental Demands
- Specific vision abilities required: color vision, distance vision, close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Frequent reaching with hands and arms; regular climbing or balancing; occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Regularly lift and/or move 50 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Frequent driving between agency sites.
Work Environment
- Indoor and outdoor work in various weather conditions (heat, cold, wet).
- Exposure to trash, potential exposure to street/lot grounds, crawl spaces, dirty water, sewage, and mud.
- Occasional interaction with the public.
