Maintenance Specialist

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Maintenance Specialist in Boca Raton, FL. This role ensures comprehensive oversight, coordination, and execution of maintenance and operational activities within residential life facilities, maintaining high standards of safety, functionality, and service.

Responsibilities

• Independently oversee, inventory, direct, control, review, and assign all corrective, preventive, and emergency work requests, day-to-day repairs, maintenance work, and activities related to maintenance and utility matters in residential life facilities.
• Consult weekly with the Assistant Director, Housing Facilities, on repairs, including but not limited to:
  • Plumbing repairs (fixtures, valves, flushometers, traps).
  • Electrical repairs (fixtures, devices, bulbs, switches, fuses, receptacles).
  • HVAC work and repairs (steam/hot water equipment, thermostats).
  • Carpentry, painting, and other building-related mechanical and structural repairs.
• Evaluate the need for repairs due to defects, deterioration, or wear and tear on facilities.
• Schedule repair work and coordinate with the Assistant Director, Housing Facilities.
• Routinely inspect all residential facilities to ensure deficiencies are corrected.
• Enter, receive, and report all work orders through the Housing online Work Order System (School Dude). Review and assign work requests in consultation with the Assistant Director.
• Identify, assess, and report damages from vandalism to proper parties.
• Communicate daily with key administrative and staff personnel regarding special events, functions, and other duties.
• Coordinate projects with campus entities to ensure smooth transitions and serve as a liaison between Housing and Campus Facilities Staff.
• Contact vendors and contractors, coordinating their work with the Assistant Director, Housing Facilities.
• Plan and execute special projects and summer renovations as needed.
• Develop and submit materials and supply budgets for approval to the Assistant Director of Housing.
• Participate in the P-Card program and track all expenditures.
• Communicate with the Assistant Director, Hall Coordinator, Senior Custodian, and Program Assistant regarding performance and special needs.
• Assume duties of the Assistant Director, Housing Facilities, in their absence, overseeing day-to-day physical plant operations and reporting to the Director of Housing.
• Assign and oversee student and/or temporary maintenance assistants, ensuring proper completion of work and availability of tools/supplies.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A high school diploma and five years of appropriate experience; or completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades and one year of appropriate experience.
• Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Pay

$23 hourly.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Some nights and weekends are required.
