Maintenance Shop Technician B
About the role
The Maintenance Technician B works under the supervision of a Lead Technician, Maintenance Supervisor, or Maintenance Manager. This role involves performing repair and maintenance tasks on diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks, including chassis components, vehicle refuse bodies, and control systems.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a working knowledge of, and moderate skill proficiency in, various vehicle components and systems, including chassis components, refuse bodies, hydraulic and electrical systems, air and hydraulic braking systems, engines, suspension, drivetrain, steering systems, heating and air conditioning, and line maintenance welding and fabrication.
- Diagnose and repair multi-system issues using a variety of electronic tools.
- Perform line maintenance welding and fabrication.
- Provide road service to ensure equipment is returned to operation safely and efficiently.
- Complete applicable Company training programs.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.
Qualifications
- Ability to diagnose multi-system issues and demonstrate technical expertise.
- Prior experience with or knowledge of maintenance work on Classes 1-5 light/medium duty and heavy-duty Class 7-8 trucks, aircraft, or ships.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications (T1-T8) are a plus but not required.
- A Commercial Driver’s License is a plus but not required.
- 3-5 years of experience in a technician position demonstrating knowledge of both gasoline and diesel-powered equipment diagnosis and repair.
- Graduating from an accredited automotive college or technical school within the next 3 months.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to perform basic inspections with limited supervision in some of the following systems: suspensions & steering; general engine, transmissions, brakes, electrical, hydraulics, drive train, diesel emissions.
Skills
Basic understanding of work order labor time standards.
