About the role
The Maintenance Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling, and optimizing maintenance activities that support DigiKey's high-volume automated material handling and distribution systems. This role plays a critical part in maximizing equipment reliability, improving maintenance efficiency, and minimizing downtime across our operations. You will work closely with maintenance technicians, operations leaders, engineers, and vendors to ensure maintenance work is properly prioritized, planned, and executed through our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). This is an essential on-site position requiring regular on-site attendance.
Responsibilities
- Develop, plan, and schedule preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance work orders within the CMMS.
- Estimate labor hours and ensure appropriate resources and qualifications are assigned to each task.
- Coordinate with the Spare Parts Administrator to ensure required parts are available before scheduled work.
- Maintain an organized maintenance backlog and ensure work orders are planned and ready for execution.
- Review and optimize preventive maintenance programs to increase system reliability.
- Analyze equipment history, failure trends, and technician feedback to improve maintenance strategies.
- Support reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
- Partner with Reliability Engineering to reduce unplanned downtime and improve asset performance.
- Maintain accurate asset records, PM schedules, job plans, and work order status.
- Generate and analyze reports to support KPI tracking and maintenance planning.
- Ensure maintenance procedures, manuals, risk assessments, and supporting documentation are accessible and properly linked within the CMMS.
- Partner with Maintenance Supervisors and Operations teams to coordinate equipment availability.
- Clearly communicate job plans and requirements to technicians.
- Support engineering teams with equipment upgrades, modifications, and continuous improvement projects.
Requirements
- Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Technology, Electrical Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience utilizing a CMMS for maintenance planning, work order management, and reporting.
- Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and control systems commonly used in conveyor and material handling environments.
- Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Technology, Electrical Technology, or a related field.
- Experience with preventive maintenance optimization.
- Knowledge of reliability engineering concepts and Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM).
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
Physical Requirements
- Primarily works at a workstation using a computer, keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
- Performs repetitive hand and upper-body movements associated with computer-based work.
- Regular interaction with maintenance and operational environments.
