Maintenance Planner
About the Role
The Maintenance Planner will work closely with the Maintenance Supervisor and Plant Engineer in planning all upcoming maintenance-related activities. This role requires adherence to established procedures, quality standards, and safety standards while meeting production targets and contributing to continuous improvement efforts in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Works with the plant engineer and maintenance supervisor in planning maintenance tasks, days, and projects.
- Ensures that all parts, materials, and personnel are available for planned maintenance tasks.
- Works with the maintenance supervisor in building effective and efficient PM programs.
- Manages all aspects of CMMS, including work order management, inventory, and PM completion rates.
- Tracks and reports all maintenance hours broken down into categories (Reactive work, Proactive work, Project work, etc.).
- Assists in setting Min/Max levels for spare parts with the plant engineer and maintenance supervisor.
- Assists in the planning process and develops a file of standard work orders for recurring repairs based on historical experience.
- Plans and schedules all maintenance work, maintains records and files for analysis, and reports completed work results.
- Develops a weekly work schedule for preventative maintenance and planned work, ensuring a balance with available hours and full personnel utilization.
- Coordinates with teams to ensure equipment availability prior to scheduling.
- Reviews work requests and work orders to ensure the scope is clearly defined.
- Ensures completed schedules and work orders are returned at the proper time.
- Manages the backlog of work orders.
- Manages VMI items, adding or removing as needed.
- Works closely with the storeroom attendant to evaluate the effectiveness of the current storeroom layout.
- Ensures processes for receiving and naming parts in Emaint are followed.
- Reviews and documents completed schedules, capturing comments in the database.
- Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Education/GED.
- Five to seven years of experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
- At least five years of proven experience in a maintenance planning role.
- Must be available to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and overtime.
Preferred Requirements
- Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Maintenance or a related field.
- Packaging industry experience.
- Knowledge of Six Sigma, SPC, and Lean Manufacturing.
- Strong problem-solving skills through individual and collaborative approaches.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective leadership skills, including conflict resolution, communication, and decision-making.
- Demonstrated employee relations skills and the ability to motivate people.
- Excellent time management, project management, and multi-tasking skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Access, etc.).
Work Environment
May involve exposure to noise, moderate temperatures, and handling of materials. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required. Ability to lift 50 lbs or more. Must be able to perform in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
Physical Demands
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may be required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. May lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
