Job Purpose

The Maintenance Planner is responsible for planning daily routine, periodic, and annual shutdown work orders for maintenance employees and contractors, aiming to minimize total maintenance cost and effort by maximizing workforce efficiency, productivity, and machine reliability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Planning & Scheduling (80%)
  • Evaluate work requests, develop scope of work, inspect job location to determine requirements; verify availability of parts, order necessary parts, and verify receipt before scheduling.
  • Estimate labor hours, manpower, parts, materials, equipment, and special tools required to complete jobs safely and cost‑effectively.
  • Analyze and update Preventative Maintenance Plans to ensure accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Compile relevant technical documentation (drawings, schematics, specifications, spare parts lists, OEM manuals) and ensure equipment files are up to date and organized.
• Leadership & Coaching (20%)
  • Conduct and lead planning and scheduling meetings with production to determine work order priorities, communicate status, and adjust activities as necessary.
  • Facilitate root‑cause analysis for equipment failures based on predetermined trigger points and ensure effective documentation of findings.
  • Develop and maintain metrics to track overall effectiveness of planning and execution within the maintenance department.
  • Train identified employees on CMMS and ensure compliance with system parameters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and operate within the core values of respect and care for others.

Physical Requirements

• Stand and sit for prolonged periods; climb stairs; bend, stoop, crawl to evaluate equipment.
• Work in a manufacturing environment with daily exposure to noise and temperature variations (heat/cold).
• Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
• May require work on alternative shifts, evenings, or weekends.

Safety, Quality and Hygiene Requirements

• Comply with all legislated and relevant safety and quality laws and regulations, including lockout/tag‑out, GMPs, HACCP, allergen controls, and Blommer‑specific policies.
• Wear required personal protective equipment: uniform, steel‑toed shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, hair net, beard net, and any safety gear specific to the work activity while on the plant floor.

Performance Expectations

• Communicate with others to address issues and coordinate work activities.
• Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition.
• Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures, and Code of Conduct.
• Ensure all metrics and downtime reports are completed.

Skills and Work Experience Requirements

• Five (5)+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment with heavy processing equipment.
• One (1)+ year of maintenance/planning experience in an industrial manufacturing setting.
• Advanced experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
• Working knowledge of effective preventative/predictive maintenance methods and processes.
• Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical drive systems, and components.
• Ability to read and interpret procedure manuals, safety rules, operating instructions, and drawings.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience in a related field.
