About the Role
The Maintenance Operations Manager directs and manages complex maintenance operations, with managerial and operational responsibility for planning, directing, and controlling all activities of a maintenance workforce. This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing County-owned, operated, or maintained facilities, transportation and/or drainage systems, and their associated utilities and services. This is a salaried position requiring on-call availability after hours, including weekends and holidays. A post-job offer physical is required.
Responsibilities
- Plans, organizes, directs, and manages maintenance, construction, and related equipment maintenance and repair activities.
- Plans, schedules, and coordinates division activities with other divisions, departments, and supported agencies.
- Reviews and makes recommendations on specialized topics such as road and drainage conditions, utility support systems, and facilities renovations.
- Directs and coordinates equipment repair activities; recommends purchases of new equipment and may write specifications for equipment and materials.
- Inspects work in progress and upon completion for quality, quantity, workmanship, and compliance with program goals and standards.
- Reviews labor and material estimates for proposed facility, system, and equipment maintenance, repairs, and modifications.
- Maintains records and prepares reports.
- Participates in the development of departmental policies and procedures.
- Prepares the division budget and participates in the development of the departmental budget.
- Evaluates and provides training and development for division staff.
- Analyzes maintenance methods, procedures, and productivity; recommends and supervises improvements, including maintenance operations tracking and scheduling.
- Receives, investigates, and responds to difficult maintenance and operations complaints.
- Makes personnel decisions and effectively recommends appointments for the division.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business or public administration, civil engineering, or a related field, and four years of professional experience in public works maintenance and construction or facilities management and maintenance, including two years of supervisory or administrative experience in a public works or facilities management setting.
- OR four years with Pima County in a Maintenance Contract Services Manager, Trades Maintenance Supervisor, or closely related position, including two years of supervisory or administrative experience in public works maintenance and construction or facilities management.
- Valid driver’s license is required at the time of application. A valid Arizona driver’s license is required at the time of appointment.
- Ability to obtain a jail pass is required.
- Post-offer background check, including verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history.
- Post-job offer physical and/or drug screen.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing day-to-day maintenance operations.
- Experience preparing building maintenance reports.
- Experience overseeing and maintaining reports for elevators and chiller maintenance.
- Experience overseeing, directing, and assisting with contracts, specifications, and submittal reviews.
- Experience with Maximo and Workday software programs.
- Experience applying Merit System Rules and departmental procedures.
Pay
Hiring Range: $79,185 – $95,056 annually. The actual salary offer will consider factors including skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity. Full compensation range for the position: $79,185 – $110,905 annually.
Schedule
This position requires on-call availability after hours, including weekends and holidays.
Special Requirements
- The successful applicant will undergo a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine suitability for operating county vehicles.
- Physical and sensory abilities include speaking in person and on the phone, operating a motor vehicle, distinguishing colors, and having depth perception and peripheral vision.
