Mechanic II
The Springfield Housing Authority, consistent with its equal opportunity and affirmative action policies, invites applicants for the position of Mechanic II with the hourly rate of $31.25.

Responsibilities
- Performs semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and repair tasks on buildings, apartments, grounds, and equipment.
- Performs mandatory snow removal and other on-call duties.
- Performs maintenance and repair tasks to hot water, heating and boiler systems such as draining tanks, cleaning burners, lubrications, etc.
- Performs plumbing tasks such as changing washers, stems etc. repairing toilets by changing ball cock, overflow tubes, etc., unclog drains, etc.
- Performs electrical tasks such as changing plate covers on switches and outlets, replacing fluorescent lights and ballasts.
- Performs pest control tasks under the direction of a licensed exterminator.
- Performs floor tile installations.
- Prepares vacant apartments for rental.
- Performs building repairs such as patching holes in walls, ceilings, doors, etc.
- Affixes assistance to mechanics in major repairs or new construction.
- Maintains and makes repairs to electrical equipment and appliances, burners, refrigerators, ranges, etc.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to use tools and perform work of a skilled nature.
- Basic knowledge of heating, plumbing, electricity, and carpentry.
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools used for building and grounds maintenance.
- Ability to use and operate snow removal equipment.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to deal effectively with other co-workers and tenants.
- Ability to prepare work orders and time sheets.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures.
- Ability to work in hazardous and adverse conditions such as infested places, snow, rain, heat, cold, cramped quarters and high places.
- Ability to bend, squat, stoop, kneel, push/pull/lift heavy objects up to 40 pounds, walk/stand for up to 8 hours, climb ladders and steps.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
