Maintenance Mechanic - Packaging

About the role

As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will be part of the Maintenance Team in the Packaging Department. You will contribute to the team by routinely operating and maintaining equipment to ensure it runs efficiently with minimal breakdowns. This role supports the technical growth of operators and our journey to operator-based maintenance. You will report to the maintenance team leader and will initially be assigned to 2nd or 3rd shift, with availability to work nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Proactively assess equipment and implement improvements to increase efficiency.
• Operate equipment to understand functionality, balanced line flow, and perform routine tasks as needed.
• Evaluate and revise preventative maintenance (PM) routines to improve maintenance effectiveness and efficiency.
• Understand product quality control and balanced line flow, ensuring repairs and modifications support these goals.
• Drive plant performance improvements through input and support of the assigned line’s long-term reliability strategy.
• Reduce unplanned downtime by completing assigned work, documenting in SAP, identifying equipment improvements, and participating in Root Cause Analysis.
• Serve as a resource for the Production team, Electricians, Quality team, and others to solve recurring problems.
• Assist in training new employees and creating new SOPs and quick-fix routines for breakdown processes.
• Contribute to a safe workplace by performing tasks safely, using safety equipment, and adhering to Lock Out/Tag Out rules and regulations.

Requirements

• At least four years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in a team-based, high-speed manufacturing environment.
• High school diploma or GED, and at least 21 years of age.
• Experience with fabrication using basic shop tools (drill press, arbor, cutting torches, saws) and welding (stick/TIG, MIG) is a plus.
• Ability to read and understand manuals and drawings.
• Must be able to work in a team environment.
• Frequent stooping, crawling in cramped quarters, and working underneath equipment.
• Routine lifting of up to 50 pounds.

Skills

• Troubleshooting and repairing equipment issues, including corrective adjustments, timing changes, modifications, and parts replacements.
• Balancing breakdown response with planned and corrective work.
