Maintenance Mechanic (P) - Airport

The City of Wichita is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic at the Airport to maintain complex systems, facilities, and equipment that support air travel, passenger experience, and public safety. This role involves hands-on work impacting airport operations, ensuring reliability, safety, and compliance in a fast-paced environment.

Join a skilled team performing preventive and corrective maintenance on passenger boarding bridges, baggage conveyor systems, HVAC, plumbing, structural repairs, and more. This position contributes directly to the success of every flight and traveler passing through Wichita.

Responsibilities

• Inspect structures, systems, and equipment to evaluate repair needs.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on plumbing, HVAC systems, pumps, and fluid distribution equipment.
• Maintain, repair, and rebuild baggage conveyor systems and passenger boarding bridges.
• Install doors, patch cement surfaces, lay tile/carpet, construct shelving, cabinetry, and partitions.
• Repair valves, gauges, pumps, wiring, switches, fixtures, and motors.
• Perform carpentry tasks, painting, refinishing, and facility remodeling.
• Conduct snow and ice removal operations during winter.
• Record labor, materials, and budget codes in a computerized facility data system.
• Operate a vehicle to complete work assignments.
• May assume limited "lead" responsibilities for other employees based on expertise.

Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of modern methods, tools, and equipment for fluid distribution systems and building construction.
• Working knowledge of conveyor or baggage handling systems.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and apply technical policies, standards, and regulations.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to read and interpret technical repair and maintenance manuals.
• Ability to use a computer to access, interpret, and record information.
• Ability to work in conditions up to 100 decibels with appropriate ear protection.
• Ability to climb stairs/ladders, work at heights up to 30 feet, and perform physically demanding tasks (e.g., lifting up to 40 lbs independently or 120 lbs with assistance).
• Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather, including snow removal.
• Willingness to work any shift, holidays, and mandatory overtime during critical needs.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates and external representatives.
• Far vision sufficient to assess facility and equipment conditions under various scenarios.
• Ability to pass a federal security background investigation (DHS/TSA) for airport security access.
• Ability to complete AOA and Airport Security Access training as required by FAA and TSA regulations.
• Possession of a valid Kansas driver’s license; may require a Class A CDL.
• Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.
